Zealous Nation Core Values
1. We zealously pursue Jesus above all!
Jesus is pre-eminent.
“Jesus first,” is our battle-cry, our mantra!
We trust His Word, follow His lead, and seek by our zealous service to glorify and honor Him above all.
17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.
Colossians 1:17-18 ESV
This is our first pursuit because this convictional value provides us the foundation and the framework to govern everything we say, believe, write, and do!
It guides us in all our decisions.
It guards us from stepping into error and heresy.
It governs the way in which we engage in spiritual discernment and warfare.
2. We zealously pursue obedience to God's Word!
There are many commands and instruction in Scripture that we have been provided to help us in our journey of zealously loving our Lord Jesus Christ! Jesus said,
15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
John 14:15 ESV
As Christian individuals and families that are striving to grow into zealous disciples of Christ, we must be willing to heed His commands. In the Great Commission we are told,
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19–20 ESV
Therefore, the command to observe all that Christ has commanded us should be met by our zealous pursuit of obedience to every single one of those commands. This requires that we train ourselves to interpret and apply the Scriptures faithfully. We will have to help you with this later.
Our mantra here is,
"Foundations Matter!"
3. We zealously pursue prayerful dependence.
Our mantra here is,
“Prayer doesn’t just fuel our ministry; prayer is the backbone of our ministry!”
Prayer is the sustaining and empowering backbone in our ministry. In our bodies, our spine serves two primary roles: supportive and empowering.
Our backbone supports our skeletal bodies by physically joining several major skeletal and muscular connections needed to allow our bodies to support and sustain itself.
Our backbone also empowers our skeletal bodies through an intricate network of nerves that connect all the parts of our body to the brain in our head. When any part of our body needs to move or feels a sensation, these nerves immediately and continuously carry a series of signals to and from our brain. Our brain processes those signals and replies by empowering the body to respond accordingly.
Much like our body’s connection to our brain via the backbone, prayer is the connection that allows signals to be transmitted between Christ’s body to Himself, the Head of the Church. The Holy Spirit, much like our nervous system, is central to the work of prayer and to the work of the Church.
In history, the church was only able to experience Acts 2 results by first engaging in the prayerful activities of Acts 1. In obedience to Christ’s final command to wait for the promise of the Father, they waited in prayer in the upper room until their spiritual fuel tanks were filled with supernatural power.
Peyton Jones has said, “At the core of any forward movement of the kingdom hums an engine that runs on spiritual fuel” (
Yet prayer doesn’t just fuel the ministry; prayer is the backbone of ministry!
4. We zealously pursue healthy relationships.
Our Mantra here is,
“Healthy relationships don’t just happen; they take careful cultivation.”
Our God is the ultimate relationship builder. God created man and woman, then ordained the relationship that would sustain them, marriage. Marriage matters. Family matters. Relationships matter.
Our Lord’s gospel is inherently relational. Jesus restores our relationship with God. Only through Him can our relationships with people be restored as well. We believe in seeking to live and love others like Christ (Philippians 2:15, 1 Corinthians 13).
At least for now, fallen humanity is imperfect, so we are not naive enough to think there will never be problems between people. However, we trust that when we allow the Holy Spirit to work in us as we practice biblical obedience healthy relationships will result. Pursuing healthy relationships will touch every relationship.
- Our relationship with God.
- Our relationship to His creation.
- Our relationship to our parents and other relatives.
- Our relationship to our siblings.
- Our relationship to our spouses.
- Our relationship to our children.
- Our relationship to our neighbors.
- Our relationship to our church family.
As a result, we seek to reach a wide diversity of people from all walks of life. We believe that kind of community will reflect the coming Kingdom of God.
5. We zealously pursue creativity, fun, and joy!
Our mantra here is going to be,
“Take time to enjoy the ride!”
God Is The Creator of Everything
1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:1 ESV
God created the plane of our existence out of nothing. He then made dust out of nothing. Then He used the dust to create humanity in His image and said that everything He manufactured was very good. Not only did He create everything, He also created the Biblical narrative to tell us about it.
In the book of Job, we find God recounting to Job the nature of His creativity (Job 38:4–12 ESV). Astonishingly, God creatively tells us this account through the art form of biblical poetry.
Consider the depth of diversity within God’s creative nature. Surely God is a very creative artist, engineer, and writer! He is the greatest content creator ever!
We Were Created to Create
Creativity is the ability to bring something new into being. While only God can create something from nothing, He made us in His image and gave us the ability to create, invent, engineer, and build all kinds of things. Humanity alone has been given this gift in its wholeness!
When I was in Seminary, I remember a professor rhetorically ask the class, "Have you ever seen an animal of any kind build a forty story building equipped with a swimming pool and a helicopter landing pad on its roof?" That vividly reminds us of God's image being placed upon humanity.
Everything we do in this life revolves around our creative nature. The life we have is the life we have created, hopefully with more of God’s help rather than less of it. Everything we do involves some sort of creative ability. We all toil, we all work. Just like our Father did during the first six days of creation. His work has continued everyday since the seventh day ended. Often times our toil is a struggle and involves pain and sometimes suffering. Nevertheless, we are to continue seeking to glorify God in all that we do!
31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV
Take Time to Enjoy Your Sensational Journey
Enjoyment is the ability to find pleasure, joy and fun in life! God has given us many blessings. He expects us to find enjoyment and contentment in the gifts He has bestowed. We need to better learn how to take time to enjoy the ride that God is giving us! Creativity, fun, laughter, and joy are all medicine to our soul!
6. We zealously pursue transformational discipleship that builds lives and homes.
Jesus commanded those who would be His disciples to,
17 And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”
Mark 1:17 ESV
23 And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. 25 For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? 26 For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.
Luke 9:23-26 ESV
18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18–20 ESV
4 Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, 5 but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: 6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.
1 John 2:4–6 ESV
40 A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher.
Luke 6:40 ESV
We zealously pursue transformational discipleship that builds lives and homes.
“To be or not to be, that is the question!”
Our mantra here comes from Shakespeare!
“To be or not to be, that is the question!”
Like God the Father called the saints of the Old Testament to follow Him, His Son, Jesus Christ calls to His true disciples and says, “Follow me!” The purpose of following Him is transformational conformity to the image of Christ!
The Apostle Paul put it like this:
11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,
Ephesians 4:11–13 ESV
We are to keep working, to keep building, until we "attain to" something. The word “attain” (καταντάω) means “to reach, to arrive at, to come down to the goal.” What are we arriving at?
We are to attain to:
- The unity of the faith.
- The knowledge of the Son of God.
- To mature manhood (or womanhood).
- To the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.
The maturing of Christ’s body will come through the maturing of its individual members. “We all” is a personal reminder that the whole body made up of its individual parts. Therefore, we must know Jesus intimately. The knowledge of His fullness is what unites us together. First and foremost, we must seek knowing the truth of Christ, knowing who He is. We should hunger and thirst to know why we believe what we believe.
